Donna Bivona has been working with children for over 17 years. She began her career teaching pre-K tothird graders for approximately 10 years. In 2005, Donna volunteered with the Association of Community Counseling where she was introduced to sand tray and client-centered play therapy. Donna did her practicum at a domestic violence center in the children’s department where she continued providing sand tray to children’s groups and individuals, conducting parenting groups, and providing counseling services to children who presented with PTSD, emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and separation anxiety. After receiving her Master’s Degree in 2007, she was hired as a children’s counselor at the domestic violence center. Twenty years plus extensive training in working with adults, couples, and families with PTSD, trauma, grief, anxiety disorders, and eating disorder therapy and addictions work. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist, Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress, and Certified Trauma Treatment Specialist. My treatment approach is individualized to the patient's needs. Nancy Thurston is a licensed clinical social worker who has a private practice offering individual, marital and family therapy. Her areas of expertise include depression, bipolar disorder, sexual abuse and trauma, grief, stress management and eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. She has been practicing mental health for 27 years.
Nancy enjoys working with body image issues. She runs a body image group which uses different mediums such as art, sculpture, and guided imagery. She is also a breast cancer survivor and feels confident speaking with people and families who are dealing with cancer.
Nancy believes that therapy is a journey of self discovery. During that passage, one can learn about their strengths and limitations, how to empower oneself, improved methods of communicating and tools to manage their symptoms while in the comfort of a supportive, validating listening environment.
